There are so many things for a tourist to see and do in Delhi. It is a city rich in culture and history, one of the reasons it is the capital of the Republic of India.
Then a trip to Delhi should be on your list, and if you are not sure where to start and end your day, our What to See in Delhi guide will prepare you for the real experience.
What to See in Delhi?

1. India Gate – Pride of the Nation
let’s start with the hub of all the action in central Delhi, by metro to Patel Chowk, and then by tuktuk to the iconic India Gate. The 42-meter-high building is the pride of the nation, with two pillars bearing the names of martyred soldiers. And it will continue to inspire us forever.
There is no photography fee in and around India Gate. Located on Rajpath and near the Parliament House, India Gate is the perfect place to start your juorney.
2. Connaught Place – The Heartbeat of Delhi
After that, take a tuktuk to Connaught Place and enjoy. Popularly known as CP, Connaught Place is the hub of shopping and entertainment. If its circular Victorian-style structure divided into blocks confuses you, take the help of Google Maps. It is also a hub of specialty and multi-cuisine restaurants and fast-food, which is great where you will find many good places to fill your stomach for every budget and taste.
3. Palika Bazaar (Palika Market)
Next name is the infamous local market of Palika Bazaar located in Central Park itself, which I would recommend visiting for your hot afternoons. Palika Bazar is a shopping paradise for bargain hunters, especially young students and backpackers. And enjoy it. Even if you don’t feel like shopping, just strolling in and having a look around is an experience in itself.
Visit Sarvana Bhavan at Janpath 46 to taste some authentic South Indian cuisine.
4. Lodhi Gardens – A Peaceful Escape
Then head to Lodhi Gardens. Spread around four monuments of the Lodhi dynasty – Mohammed Shah’s Tomb, Sikander Lodhi’s Tomb, Sheesh Gumbad and Bada Gumbad – Lodhi Gardens offers a pure sense of peace away from the hustle and bustle of city life. It is one of the best historical places to visit.
5. Old Delhi – A Flavorful Adventure

And then to visit the amazing place of Old Delhi, take the metro to Chawri Bazaar. Once there, visit the historic Jama Masjid – India’s largest mosque and national identity. Experience the unnatural joy and peace inside the Jama Masjid, or climb the minaret to get a panoramic view of the city. And get an amazing view.
Purani Delhi, Delicious Food If you are a non-vegetarian, head straight to Karim Restaurant located opposite Jama Masjid. Karim Restaurant is probably one of the most talked about restaurants in India, and can be seen promoted by publications like Nat Geo, Lonely Planet and BBC.
And sir, for non-vegetarians, there is no better time to visit Delhi than Ramadan. You will be delighted.
Yes, if you are not a non-vegetarian, then visit Paranthe Wali Gali in Chandni Chowk to enjoy delicious paranthas and refreshing lassi!
Chandni Chowk is another highlight of Indian markets, a short walk through the many tangled lanes of Chandni Chowk will make your Delhi trip complete – so don’t miss it. From clothes to jewelry and medical books, you will find everything here. You will have a great time
Yes, if you are a non-vegetarian, then take a rickshaw (or walk) to Khari Baoli – the largest spice market not only in India, but in Asia.
It is evening now so head to the Red Fort and watch the sunset. The sun setting behind one of the pillars of the Red Fort makes it priceless.
At night, head straight to the night market of Delhi street food at Chandni Chowk. What fun! Must try all these if you go.
Where to stay in Delhi?
Earlier finding a hotel in Delhi could be a tough task if you didn’t know where to stay. Though there are many options available now, in terms of price, I would recommend online booking for their affordable prices and great services. These include Make my trip, trivago, goibibo etc.
